GEO Snapshot vs SEOquake: SERP Overlay vs Page Level AI Audit

Diagram: five search result rows stacked on the left, each with a title, a description line and three small number chips beneath it. The third row is picked out in orange, and a dotted curve leads from it to one tall card on the right, which shows that same page opened up with a heading and seven findings, each carrying its own marker.

SEOquake and GEO Snapshot rarely compete for the same click, they solve different problems in the same workflow.

What shows up under every Google result

Zoomed all the way in, deliberately. This page's featured image already shows the results list from a distance, so drawing it again here would be the same picture twice on one page. Instead: one result at reading size with the overlay strip named, and two fading repeats below to say it happens under all of them.

The metrics are labelled, not abstracted. The section is a fair account of what SEOquake is good at, and four unnamed chips would be a shrug where the prose is specific.

Alt: A diagram on a peach ground titled "One overlay, repeated down the page", under an orange label reading "What shows up under every Google result". A single search result is drawn at reading size with a favicon, a url line, a title and two lines of description. Below a rule inside the same card sit four orange outlined chips: "Semrush rank", "Indexed pages", "Link counts" and "Domain age". Two fainter copies of the same row fade away beneath it. A line across the foot reads "Built to compare many results at once, which is a different job from auditing one."

SEOquake, built by Semrush, adds a row of metrics under every organic result on a Google search page, Semrush rank, indexed pages, link counts and domain age, alongside an SEO Audit tool, keyword density report and internal and external link analysis. No Semrush account is needed for the core extension, connecting one unlocks further data. Its strength is comparing many results at once directly on the search page, useful for competitive research at speed.

A results page can't tell you what a crawler sees

SEOquake's checks are built for a search engine that ranks results in a list. It has no check for whether a page is readable by an AI crawler that skips JavaScript, no per bot robots.txt parsing, and no comparison between what a page serves and what a browser renders. Keyword density and link counts describe a page's structure for traditional ranking, not its usefulness to a generative answer.

Moving the audit from the SERP to the page itself

GEO Snapshot works on one page at a time rather than a results page, and answers the specific question SEOquake does not, can an AI crawler read this, and does robots.txt block the one that matters at citation time. It also validates schema by type and flags AI readability issues like thin content or a missing definition block, both free with no account layer.

What's free, and what needs a Semrush login

GEO Snapshot has no paid tier, every check free with no account. SEOquake's core extension is free with no login required for its SERP overlay, SEO Audit tool, keyword density report or link analysis. Connecting a Semrush account unlocks additional data pulled from the wider Semrush platform, which runs on its own subscription starting at around 140 dollars a month for the Pro plan as of 2026. SEOquake itself does not require this to function.

Research mode or audit mode: when to use which

Most workflows end up needing both, at different points in the process.

Agency doing competitive research before a pitch. SEOquake first, its SERP overlay is built exactly for scanning a page of results at speed and spotting patterns across competitors. Run GEO Snapshot on the client's own top pages once the pitch moves to specifics, since AI visibility is a common gap competitors have not addressed yet.

Single site owner checking one page. GEO Snapshot is the more direct tool here, it answers whether that specific page is readable by AI crawlers without needing to run a search first. SEOquake's SERP overlay only shows anything once you are looking at a results page.

In house team already running Semrush. Keep SEOquake for the SERP level competitive view that comes with the subscription. Add GEO Snapshot for the AI crawler question, which sits outside what either SEOquake or the broader Semrush platform currently checks.

SEOquake and GEO Snapshot on the same page

Alt: A ten row comparison of GEO Snapshot against SEOquake, with the GEO Snapshot column picked out in an orange band. GEO Snapshot answers yes and SEOquake no on AI crawler access and robots.txt per bot, served HTML against rendered DOM, and the llms.txt check. SEOquake answers yes and GEO Snapshot no on the SERP overlay across multiple results, the keyword density report, and domain age and indexed pages. Both do internal and external link analysis on one page. On schema validation by type GEO Snapshot answers yes and SEOquake partial. GEO Snapshot needs no account; SEOquake needs none for its core but a Semrush account for extra data. GEO Snapshot is free; SEOquake is free at core with Semrush from around 140 dollars a month. A footnote reads "Compared August 2026. Four rows go the other way. Different jobs in the same workflow."

Common questions, answered plainly

Does SEOquake check AI crawler access? No. Its metrics are built around traditional search ranking signals, not AI crawler behaviour.

Do I need a Semrush account for SEOquake? No for the core extension. Connecting an account unlocks additional Semrush data, which runs on its own subscription.

How much does the Semrush account behind SEOquake cost? SEOquake itself stays free either way. A full Semrush subscription starts at around 140 dollars a month for the Pro plan if you want the wider platform data.

Which is better for competitive research? SEOquake, its SERP overlay compares many results at once. GEO Snapshot audits one page in depth.

Can I run both on the same page? Yes, they check different things and do not conflict.

Is GEO Snapshot free like SEOquake? Yes, both are free with no paid tier for their core features.

Does keyword density in SEOquake say anything about AI search readiness? Not directly. It measures how often terms appear for traditional on page optimisation, not whether an AI crawler can access or read the page.
